Professor Mughal has been a consultant general surgeon for 30 years and has specialist expertise and wide experience in the treatment of upper GI and endocrine conditions. He is Honorary Clinical Professor at University College, London and Honorary Consultant Surgeon at University College Hospitals London.
He has 25 years experience in the review, design and reconfiguration of clinical services in the National Health Service, and has successfully lead major reconfigurations in the North West of England and London. He has a major interest in improving cancer care at a system level and is the lead for Multidisciplinary Team Improvement School of the UCLH Cancer Academy. He was appointed joint Chief Medical Officer of the UCLH Cancer Collaborative in January 2019. He also works with medical professional bodies including the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the National Institute of Health Research.
He has been providing medicolegal expertise in the areas of general and upper GI surgery for 14 years.
Professor Mughal has also been involved in teaching, assessment and designing teaching programmes for 30 years and is an external examiner for higher degrees at UCL and other universities.
